Very happy to add to our Flandrien Gallery collection this Colnago C-50 Extreme Power that Australian Mathew Hayman raced during his time at Rabobank when he was a fresh faced kid dreaming of a win in the classics.

The Colnago C50 was an evolution of the Colnago C40, a groundbreaking bicycle due to the unique collaboration between legendary car designer Enzo Ferrari and renowned bicycle maker Ernesto Colnago.

This partnership blended cutting-edge automotive technology with elite cycling craftsmanship, creating a bike that redefined performance standards. Ferrari’s expertise in aerodynamics and lightweight materials was instrumental in the C40’s development. They shared advanced carbon fibre technologies used in their new F40 model and Formula 1 cars, resulting in a frame that was both incredibly light and exceptionally stiff.

Ernesto Colnago’s deep understanding of bike geometry and his commitment to precision engineering ensured that the C40 was not only fast but also offered superior handling and ride quality. This synergy led to the creation of the first all-carbon frame to win Paris-Roubaix, proving its robustness and innovation.  The C40 set a new benchmark in the cycling world, demonstrating how cross-industry collaboration can lead to revolutionary advancements in sports technology.

Hayman raced for Rabobank & Sky before joining Australian WorldTour team Orica in 2014. Hayman spent most of his 17-year career working for others and only collected 3 wins: the Commonwealth Games road race, Paris-Bourges and Paris-Roubaix.
